Is common decency dead?
I've always found this confusing. The US senate has now clarified it's position on detainees. Read this.The part I find confusing is that there are a few areas where some clarity is required. Such as access to lawyers etc. However, the actions that cause all the scandals are actions that anyone who has any courtesy to another human being would never even contemplate. Rape, torture, do they need to be specifically added. Oh by the way. Don't rape them. How does that become something that needs to be part of an instruction?
It's a step in the right direction but if the guards didn't follow basic common sense previously then how can we be sure they are going to change now?
